Food for the Senses

13-p17-HowMyParents                                                                                          Growing up with Orthodox Jewish grandparents, food was a big part of our lives. Holidays were celebrated with traditional foods.  Born in the U.S. my parents did not follow these traditions and foods of all cultures were to be enjoyed. Perhaps that is why children’s  picture books about foods and different cultures have inspired me. Some of my favorite titles:  the classic Blueberries for Sal; the beautifully illustrated picture books of Allen Say (Japan) and Patricia Polacco (Ukraine) that explore their cultures. My current picture book I’ve been writing and revising for the past six months is inspired by both Jewish and Chinese holidays and foods.
